What Happens During An Mbsr Session?

Generally there is an 8 week mindfulness course, with one consultation per week. The duration of each session varies depending mostly on the curriculum, but they generally run two to three hours. A licensed instructor instructs individuals on a mindfulness method that they practise as a group throughout each session.

Participants want to achieve a deeper sense of calm by enhancing their mindfulness and lowering their general reactivity and emotional reactivity through MBSR.

In MBSR classes, an instructor emphasises the following practices:

Breathing-related exercises: Diaphragmatic respiration is a factor you may learn. It involves inflation and deflation of the stomach during inspiring and expiring. This and different sorts of mindful breathing allow you to revel in more calm by slowing your heartbeat and lowering your blood pressure.

Gratitude journaling: Your trainer may urge you to maintain a gratitude diary, in which you write down items in your life for which you are grateful.

This technique can help you redefine your perspective such that it is more cheerful.

Collective discussion: Members of the group discuss their thoughts and feelings as they apply MBSR practices to their lives.

Assignments: Your teacher will most likely assign you daily homework during the program. Assignments may involve practising particular mindfulness practices, engaging in guided meditations, etc.

Meditation: A body scan meditation, for example, involves closing your eyes and focusing your concentration on different parts of your body. The idea is to become aware of almost any stress in your body and envision it departing.

Yoga: Your teacher will lead you through gentle yoga practices that will help to calm both your body and mind.
